Criminal offenses in Texas are categorized as a felony or a misdemeanor:

  • B misdemeanors are punishable by up to six months in jail and up to $2000, or a combination of the two;
  • A misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail and up to $4,000, or a combination of the two;
  • C misdemeanors are not charged by an information, they are usually categorized as a ticket or citation and are heard in Justice of the Peace court or City Municipal Court.
